PORCIA – It will be a real duel, the one between outgoing mayor, Marco Sartiniand the new civic candidate, Mario Bianchini. AND there will only be the two of them. In fact, the 5 Star Movement, which in recent years has supported the opposition forces, has not presented its own list. Marco Sartini, 54 years old, is supported by a centre-right list made up of Lega, the party to which he is a member, Fratelli d’Italia, Forza Italia and the civic party Per Porcia. During his mandate he put his experience as an architect to good use to undertake various public works, such as new cycle paths, trying to stand out for his industriousness. Mario Bianchini, 44 years old, is instead supported by the civic list La Risorgiva, of which he is the leader, by the Democratic Party and by the civic Porcia Bene Comune. A teacher of law and economics at the Zanussi institute, he has a past as a municipal councilor in Pordenone. From the beginning he drew attention to the social deficiencies of Porcia, trying to meet the citizens and listen directly to their opinions and problems.

THE FUTURE

There are quite a few challenges that await the one who wins at the polls. First of all the lack of a real historic center. Many properties are vacant and empty for too long now. The few commercial activities alone cannot keep alive what should be a meeting point for citizens. The urban layout doesn’t help. Instead of a square there is a central street traveled by numerous vehicles that only intend to cross the municipality. It will also be necessary to strengthen the connection with the hamlets, some more isolated than others and each with its own needs, such as the lack of services for Rondover or Pieve. In this regard, both candidates have expressed an interest in investing in cycle paths. The next few years will be decisive in determining how the Villa Correr Dolfin area will be used, which has long been the subject of interventions. The historical area has great potential and care must be taken to ensure that it is managed in the best possible way. Both candidates have expressed rather ambitious ideas but, obviously, only the vision of one of the two will prevail. Then there is the issue of juvenile delinquency. For a long time, the phenomenon was traced back to Covid isolation but it is now clear that the situation is more complex than that. Only in 2023 did the news report the vandalization of the middle school and the oratory, the attack with stinging spray against the customers of the former Al Feudo tavern and a student ended up in the emergency room because one of his peers shot him with a spring gun from the window of the house. The latter defended himself by stating that he was a victim of bullying and that his persecutors were ordering him to take to the street, where they were waiting for him with a baseball bat. A year earlier, a teenager defended himself with a knife from peers who ambushed him. These are only the most striking cases of a pervasive phenomenon that will have to be addressed in a structured and decisive manner, involving and questioning both schools and families.

THE POLICIES

Other a heartfelt theme is the environmental one, in particular the numerous violations of the air quality alert threshold reported by the Arpa control unit. Finally, new works of significant public interest will have to be completed, such as elementary schools, a sports hall, a larger eco-centre, a center for dementia diseases and the long-awaited roundabout of the Garage Venezia. These are all works that Porcia needs and which will have to see the light during the next administration.
