Unions on accidents at the port of Ancona: yesterday morning, 6 May, a worker from a port company ends up in the water with his forklift and the other day, in FINCANTIERI, another contract worker was burned by a manhole cover falling after a gas leak
The number of deaths at work is a war bulletin: a real national shame, in defiance of the commitments made by the various institutions during countless conferences. The last one, in chronological order, was the one that took place on 13 April 2023 on Health and Safety in the port sector, organized by the Central Adriatic Port System Authority, with the presence of the social partners, INAIL, INPS. Unfortunately, despite many words, accidents at the port still exist and affect workers of port companies and others and, often, we witness serious accidents. For the trade union organizations of FILT CGIL – FIT CISL UIL TRASPORTI, health and safety at work are a priority and the proposals to implement it are contained in a platform that was presented at the time to the Port System Authority which was committed to promoting the culture of prevention at work for workers and companies in order to achieve the goal of zero accidents.
The safety platform of the trade unions contains various requests including greater investments dedicated to training, not only of employees but also of employers. For FILT CGIL – FIT CISL UIL TRASPORTI, the Work Plan promoted by the transport unions at the port must be relaunched, to increasingly specialize workers and promote a culture of safety.
Not to mention the occupational diseases which should be increasingly investigated and studied in relation to working environments, the use of PPE (personal protective equipment) and the organization of work which has become increasingly flexible to satisfy the demands of shipowners and maritime agencies. . The union has asked for a joint meeting with the AdSP MAC (port system authority of the central Adriatic) and the Hygiene and Safety Committee which is responsible, within the port, for promoting and preventing the culture of safety with the institutions.
