118 nurse attacked by guest of the CPR of Palazzo San Gervasio

Monday 6 May 2024 – “The episode of violence which occurred at the first light of dawn yesterday 05/05/2024 involving a nurse from 118 in Basilicata, attacked by a non-EU citizen, already a guest of the Permanence Center for the Repatriation (CPR) of Palazzo San Gervasio, is of an unprecedented severity, having jeopardized the safety of the young woman and the 118 driver who intervened in her defense”.

“The man, in need of treatment and in a state of evident psychophysical alteration, during transport to the hospital violently hit the nurse who was assisting him, also damaging the ambulance, in an attempt to resist medical treatment.

Fortunately, the ambulance driver and the police promptly intervened, avoiding tragedy, as the subject was hiding a sharp body.

The episode – Pisani reports – raises many questions about the failure to recognize the risk allowance of 118 personnel. A risk that is not recognized by the institutions, despite the constant danger to which nurses, drivers and doctors are exposed. of 118, both for the scenarios in which they are forced to work and for the continuous verbal and physical violence to which they are subjected.

Yesterday was not an isolated case. In the past – Pisani recalls – there have also been episodes of harassment against female workers by guests of the CPR with very serious psychological and physical consequences.

The institutions are called not only to carry out the usual procedures in hospitals but to address this situation with urgency and determination. ASP funds need to be implemented with additional resources to establish specific risk compensation and/or incentive projects. Furthermore, the competent authorities are invited to act promptly and decisively to restore order and tranquility at the CPR of Palazzo San Gervasio and throughout the Region.

The UIL FPL Basilicata, demonstrating closeness and solidarity to the attacked worker, – concludes Pisani – once again asks for concrete signals from the institutions and adequate measures to guarantee their safety”.
