Gioffrè murder: the body “wrapped and not covered”. Mirabelli asks to be escorted to the courtroom

COSENZA – New hearing this morning in the Court of Assizes in Cosenza for the murder of Rocco Gioffrè, (whose family members, the children Francesca, Giovanna and Pasquale, are represented by the lawyer Francesco Gelsomino) which occurred on 14 February last year and confessed by Tiziana Mirabelli (defended by the lawyer Cristian Cristiano), five days later, on the 19th of the same month. The accused is accused of having stabbed him over 40 times and the ongoing proceedings are based precisely on the relationship between the two. In fact, during the previous hearings, the relationships between the two emerged through WhatsApp chats and the last moments preceding the death of the pensioner were partly reconstructed by viewing the images of a camera that the victim had installed in the house, in his apartment in via Monte Grappa. The accused is present in the courtroom.

Paid 1,800 euros into the account on the day of the crime

The first witness is the employee at the counter of the Post Office in Piazza Crispi who on 14 February 2023, at 8.24am, recorded the payment of 1,800 euros in cash into her account/booklet. To do this, the employee explains that it is necessary to present a document and the tax code that corresponds to Mrs. Mirabelli.

The body ‘wrapped’ and not covered

We then move on to the notes, which will be acquired by the Court, on which the police lieutenant reported Luigi Bazzurri and which concern the video surveillance images of external systems, specifically that of Scarpelli. Full images that show the entrance to the house of the condominium in via Monte Grappa. “There is a discrepancy of 22 minutes of delay between the display time and the time in force (20 minutes earlier) and the recording examined, from 14 to 16 February, is complete except for approximately one hour ( from 8.47pm to 10.16pm on 14 February).

The lieutenant says that it was he who made the first entry into the accused’s house but only to ascertain the presence of a body and speaks of the presence of two trolleys usually used for shopping in shopping centres, one larger and the other smaller. small. “There was a trolley in the deceased’s home that was larger than normal, positioned in the living room, with a bottle of water inside. The smaller one – he explains – enters Mrs Mirabelli’s house at 7.16pm on the 14th and leaves on the 16th February”.

Regarding the investigation of the body, the lieutenant reports: “When we entered, we didn’t get too close so as not to contaminate the scene but I remember – explains Buzzurri – that the body was in the bedroom, on the floor, wrapped in a blanket and from black envelopes and appeared to be wrapped and not simply covered, rolled up. The head was sticking out and the upper part of the body was partially uncovered. I only saw the body from the outside but as far as other elements are concerned, the forensic team will be called to intervene and respond.” Among the other footage from this camera, the lieutenant explains that Mrs Mirabelli was seen passing again between 10.29am on 14 February and around 10.50am on Via Monte Grappa, holding a black bag, the contents of which however were not ascertained.”

Mirabelli “I’m afraid that someone might hurt me”

The hearing it was then updated to May 20th. The Judge, Paola Lucente, given the delays that often occur in translating the accused from the house where she is restricted to house arrest to the courtroom by the Penitentiary Police, also asked Mirabelli to appear in court alone but herself she replied that she was afraid, that she felt threatened, asking to be brought to court by the penitentiary police: “three pistols that Gioffrè kept in his house and I’m afraid someone might hurt me“.
