“It’s a shame about the break for the Arians”

The ‘peaceful invasion’ of tourists continues in the city, in Ravenna. Yesterday, despite the sun pushing many to enjoy Sunday at the seaside, there were many tourists who took advantage of the events to discover the city. Foreigners, organized groups, school trips. The spring long weekend festival organized at the public gardens in via Santi Baldini also ended yesterday with great success among participants: five days of street food, truck food and music. Trucks specializing in takeaway cuisine filled the Gardens: a gastronomic tour of regional and international specialities.

Not far away, at the Mar, Art Museum of the city of Ravenna, the exhibition of Salgado’s photographs is filling up with tourists. ‘Exodus – Humanity on the move’ by Sebastião Salgado will be open until 2 June (opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday 9am-6pm; Sundays and holidays 10am-7pm, closed on Mondays). Furthermore, yesterday was the day of free entry to state museums and monuments, the initiative which every first Sunday of the month allows entry without paying the ticket. And among the free entry monuments such as Sant’Apollinare in Classe and the Mausoleum of Theodoric there was also the Arian Baptistery. It’s a shame that tourists here were very disappointed by the closing time during lunch break. “We didn’t book the ticket in advance – says a couple from Vicenza – the beauty of visiting a small city is also being able to allow yourself to go around it and appreciate its views without haste, but this closure during lunch break is ridiculous”. In fact, on weekdays the Baptistery has visiting hours from 9 to 12; while on Saturdays and Sundays it is open from 9am to 5pm but with the site closed from 12pm to 2pm.
