Techfind A1 F Playout – Faenza beats Battipaglia and survives

E-Work Faenza remains in Serie A1 thanks to the 81-60 victory over OMEPS Battipaglia. After almost two minutes of errors, Battipaglia is the first to break the deadlock with Seka’s basket, but Faenza responds with six consecutive points from Tagliamento and takes command of the match (7-4). The tension is palpable and the two teams struggle to find the way to the basket, remaining for another two minutes without scoring. Ferrari tries to shake up his team with a triple and as the match progresses, Faenza also manages to get into the rhythm: the Romagna players respond to Policari’s three-point play with Peresson and after ten minutes they are ahead 17-14. Faenza returns to the field with a 5-0 run that takes them to +8 (22-14), but Battipaglia doesn’t let their opponents escape and in fact, with two triples scored by Ferrari and Domenguer, they manage to get back up to -2 (26-24). Seka and Johnson respond to Dixon and Niemojewska, but then Faenza finds an 8-0 run that gives them the first double-digit lead of the match, at 38-28. Tagliamento’s triple even scores the +11 and the two teams go to the break at 41-30. Faenza starts the third quarter well and thanks to a 6-2 run they immediately find themselves on +15 (47-32), Battipaglia tries to respond with four consecutive points from Smorto, but Franceschelli, the triple from Tagliamento and Dixon lead the way home on +18 (54-36). The bells try to mend the gap, but only manage to get a little closer towards the end of the quarter, when they close at 61-48 thanks to a 2-6 run in the last minute. In the last fraction Battipaglia tries to get closer, but never manages to get below the double-digit deficit. Faenza reaches its maximum lead at +22 (81-59), before closing at 81-60. Tagliamento and Dixon dominate the match with 23 points each and Faenza wins thanks to an excellent 42% from two points. Smorto’s 14 are not enough in Battipaglia: the Campania team will now have to challenge Sanga Milano in the second round to remain in Serie A1.
