first woman under 29′, historic world record over 10,000

Beatrice Chebet has signed the new world record of 10,000 meters. The Kenyan ran a crazy 28:54.14 in Eugene (USA), in a side race of the Diamond League stage which will start shortly. The 24 year old, bronze medalist in the half distance at the last World Championships and twice world champion in cross country, wrote an authentic page in the history of athletics, as she became the first woman to break the legendary 29 minute wall.

The African has literally the previous record was demolished, as it took almost seven seconds off the 29:01.03 clocked by Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey on June 8, 2021 in Hengelo. Beatrice Chebet put together twenty-five laps that immortalize her forever in the myth, supporting in a vibrant manner with the Ethiopian Gudaf Tsegay (reigning Mon Champion) until the eighth kilometer (passing halfway through the race in 14:31.08).

The Kenyan then accelerated peremptorily between the eighth and ninth kilometershowing off an exceptional state of form and bringing her direct opponent to her knees, among other things over a distance that she hadn’t run on the track for even four years. Tsegay finished in 29:05.92, which is still the third fastest in history. The Kenyans Lilian Kasait Rengeruk (29:26.89) and Margaret Chelimo Kipkemboi (29:27.59) were far behind.
