After the greetings of the mayor of Matera Domenico Bennardi, the president of the Province of Matera and mayor of Montalbano Jonico Piero Marrese and the mayors of Pisticci and Craco, Domenico Albano and Vincenzo Lacopeta, the following spoke: Margherita Gina Romaniello, President of the Lucana Film Commission, Giampaolo Calabrese, project manager of the Calabria Film Commission, the producer Paola Columba, the director Fabio Segatori and the actors Alessio Boni and Fiorenzo Mattu who plays the role of Sancho Panza.

“We wanted to support this production both because it was inspired by the work of a great Lucanian artist, Gerardo Guerrieri – he reiterated the President of the Lucania Fil Commission, Margherita Gina Romaniello– and because it represents a precious opportunity for cooperation between us and the neighboring Calabria Film Commission to promote and enhance areas that are still little known, but of great charm. We are convinced that sharing projects of this type will multiply professional and employment opportunities.”

“I bring the greetings of the Extraordinary Commissioner Anton Giulio Grande – he began Giampaolo Calabrese of the Calabria Film Commission. This is an opportunity for a virtuous collaboration between two entities and two territories that have many things in common, also from a morphological point of view. Being here in Matera reinforces the idea that, through an international cinematographic project like Don Quixote, a great South can be affirmed even better”.

“After playing Don Quixote in almost all the theaters in Italy, I received a gift – underlined Alessio Boni: the possibility of not abandoning this character which, for 215 performances, made me dream. I will bring this crazy idealist from the stage to the set because I am intrigued by the professional challenge. But above all because, today more than ever, we need quixotic undertakings.”

First take on Monday 6 May in the Calanchi area. The other Lucanian sets will be, for two weeks, Pisticci, Montalbano Jonico, Craco, Borgo Taccone and Genzano di Lucania. After Basilicata the filming will move to Calabria and the Alto Jonio Cosentino.

In the film several Lucanian professionals: the actors Gabriella Bagnasco in the role of Dulcinea, Carlo De Ruggieri, Giovanni Capalbo and Michele Ferrara, the director of photography Ugo Lo Pinto, the actress Manola Rotunno, the general organizer Franco Campagna and the assistant camera operator Angelo De Luca.
