They participated in the Italian Geography Championships reserved for lower secondary schools, organized last March by SOS Geografia“Zaccagna, yesterday and today” and AIIG Liguria and Tuscany, at the IIS “Zaccagna-Galilei” in Carrara, and by finishing in first and second place, they were awarded, as a prize, a stay offered by the Apuan Alps Regional Park in Equi Terme (Fivizzano).
Aurora, Lorenzo, Alberto, Samuele, Walid and Lorenzo from the IC “Camigliano” of Capannori (Lu), accompanied by professors Elisa Bechelli and Chiara Marchiori, spent three days in the Apuan Alps Park guided in this beautiful adventure by the expert educators of AlterEco Cooperative, Francesca Malfanti and Elvira Velardi.
The base camp was the ApuanGeoLab of the Apuane Park in Equi Terme where the kids carried out a series of indoor activities.
From there they then paid a visit to the karst cave, in the dark with helmet and head torch, to the karst torrent in flood in the cave, to the archaeological museum and to the prehistoric tecchia. They then went on an excursion on the path of the waters and geosites, of the thermal springs and of the Equi furrow, a narrow and deep canyon.
An experience of great educational value and a practical and fun way to discover how geography is a living thing and not just a theoretical discipline made up only of names, numbers and notions. Italian parks are a concrete example of this: an unparalleled concentration of local, physical and human eco-geography.
The only regret for the organizers is the lack of participation of the IC “1° Paolo di Tarso” from Bacoli (Naples), which ranked third.
