Late on Saturday afternoon, the Local Police of Caserta were called to intervene at the municipal cemetery in Via Cappuccini following a report from the caretaker regarding a damaged grave.

After carrying out the necessary investigations and an initial reconstruction of the scene, the officers found that the external part of the niche had been destroyed and that the remains of the deceased were not present inside.

Investigations were immediately started in order to ascertain whether the remains of the deceased had been moved within the cemetery. On-site checks were carried out and sector managers were contacted.

The Local Police are evaluating all hypotheses, including that of the alleged theft of the ossuary with the remains of the deceased, currently perpetrated by unknown persons.

At the invitation of Commander Piricelli, the cemetery caretaker formalized the complaint at the offices of the Local Police Command.

The situation is currently under control and the Local Police is committed to doing everything possible to resolve this unpleasant episode and restore tranquility to the municipal cemetery of Caserta.
