Sound defeat for Lecco: Brescia flies to the play-offs

In goal: Bjarnason (12′), Moncini (16′ and 52′), Bianchi (74′), first Bluceleste stamp for Inglese (92′)

BRESCIA – Il Lecco by Andrea Malgrati gets another resounding defeat losing 4-1 against Brescia Of Maran. In the first half, the Blucelesti struggled to react to Brescia’s one-two, in the second half the home team secured the result with two more goals, the only joy for Lecco being Inglese’s late goal.

The Bluceleste coach must give up, in addition to the long-term patient Lamanna, the unavailable Louakima, Capradossi, Listkowski, Beretta and the suspended Lepore. Therefore, Lemmens starts on the right wing, a solid midfield with Degli Innocenti, Sersanti and Ionita. Novakovich initially sits on the bench up front, Buso first strikes with the Parigini and Crociata alongside him.

On the opposite front, Manan leaves the unavailable Borrelli, Olzer and Adorni at home and sets up Moncini from the first minute even if slightly bruised as the sole striker, supported by Galazzi and Bjarnason behind him.

The Chronicle

In the first few minutes Brescia had more offensive ideas without creating any danger for the Bluceleste rearguard, while Lecco instead tried to show off on the counterattack. In the 9th minute, a nice advance on the right by Lemmens (L) who puts it in the middle for Ionita (L) who goes for a shot which is blocked by the Brescia rearguard.

At the other end the hosts try with Galazzi’s header (B), the ball goes just wide. Soon after in the 12th minute, Capolare (L) loses the duel with Dickmann (B) who hits a low shot in the middle, Bjarnason (B) arrives on the ball and powerfully pierces the opponent’s net.

Lecco in the doll also conceded the 2-0 goal in the space of 4 minutes. Usual dead ball goal, in the 16th minute Galazzi (B) takes the corner and finds the head of Moncini (B) who smashes it hard into the net behind Melgrati (L). Lecco’s reaction is entrusted to Buso (L) who in the 20th minute attempts a shot from distance but the ball ends up high.

At half an hour, Lecco is unable to find the right hole to shorten the lead while the blue and white manage the result well. The guests again see themselves forward with Buso (L) stealing the ball from Lezzerini (B), outside the posts, but finding no space for a shot. The possible turning point of the match comes in the 40th minute, last man foul by Jallow (B) on Parigini (L).

The defender was initially sent off by referee Di Marco but, after the VAR review, the color of the card was changed: from red to yellow. Free kick from the edge taken by Ionita (L) which however hits the Brescia barrier. Lecco suffered a one-initially one-two from Brescia, the Bluceleste spark lit too late thanks to the usual Niccolò Buso.

Second half

Novakovich immediately comes on in place of Sersanti for Lecco, Crociata moves up to midfield. In the 47th minute from a free kick, Degli Innocenti’s shot (L) ends up just wide. Great cross from Lemmens (L) to the far post for Ionita (L) who puts it back in the middle for Degli Innocenti (L) who stops and volleys, great diving intervention from Lezzerini (B).

In Lecco’s best moment, Brescia passes in the 52nd minute: great cross from the left by Galazzi (B) to the head of Moncini (B) who beats Melgrati (L) for the second time. On the other side, Caporale (L) tries to cross with his left foot but doesn’t find the target. In the 61st minute, Huard (B) takes a safe shot, closes Lemmens (L) on a slide and puts it in the corner.

The guests also suffered a 4-0 defeat from Brescia in the 74th minute, due to lack of attention in the Blucelesti’s midfield, the ball arrives Bisoli (B) who kicks hard low Melgrati (L) does not hold back and on the tap-in Bianchi (B) arrives to put it into the net.

In the 82nd minute, he attempts a shot from outside with Galli (L) but the ball goes just over. Great opportunity in the final for Lecco, Lezzerini (B) surpassed himself first on Novakovich’s (L) close-range shot but, above all, on Frigerio’s (L) header. The guests find the goal in the 92nd minute, Buso (L) heads in the small area, Inglese (L) anticipates the save from the Brescia goalkeeper and scores his first goal for the Bluceleste.

Yet another heavy defeat for Lecco who suffered the orderly and bold play of Brescia, the Blucelesti allowed too many spaces and still had not learned, at the end of the season, to defend set pieces. The next and last match of this heartbreaking Serie B championship will be played at Rigamonti-Ceppi against Modena.
