The cycling season for the very young of the provincial FCI, aged 7 to 12, has opened in Casatisma. On a cloudy but very well attended day (over 80 members) Upol Pedale Lungavilla organized the “First Casatisma Youth Trophy” in the best possible way, with the support of the “27040 Group”, very active in the area.
At the opening, as per the provisions of the Italian Cycling Federation, a minute’s silence was observed in memory of Stefano Diaferio, an 18-year-old mountain bike enthusiast who passed away in recent days in a road accident in Valeggio sul Mincio. Then, after the opening lap of the G0, here is the race, starting from the G1 won by Guido Bartali, of the Unione Ciclistica Valpolcevera, in the G2 victory for Thomas Bertani, of the Nuova Ciclistica Arma, in the G3 for Brian Brusco, of Nuova Ciclistica Arma, in G4 Mattia Pastorelli of Upol Pedale Lungavilla got the better of Lorenzo Toso, of Oltrepo Bike Academy, in the final sprint, in G5 Federico Arcudi of Ciclistica Piossasco, in G6 Mattia Di Domenico, of Polisportiva Quiliano Bike Marchisio. Among the girls we highlight the first places in the G3 of Linda De Giovanni (Nuova Ciclistica Arma), in the G4 of Emma Valeri (Uà Cycling Team), in the G5 of Ester Colombino (Quiliano Bike Marchisio), in the G6 of Greta Lupo (Imperia Raineri) .
“I am satisfied with this first official race of the Giovanissimi Provincial Challenge – declares Mario Rovida, coach of Upol Pedale Lungavilla since this season -. Our boys, despite the tension of the home match, performed very well. A first place with Mattia Pastorelli in the G4, where it is also worth mentioning the good fifth place for Riccardo Mazzoni, in the G5 Selene Sforzini took second place, as did Maria Arcorace, second in the G6”. There are numerous certificates that the Upol boys are receiving at the beginning of the season, with training taking place both on the road and on the track of the Castelletto di Branduzzo Motodromo, where next year also the daughter of the great champion of the past Felice Gimondi, Norma, former vice president of the FCI, would like to organize the Gimondi Camp. “After all, our motto is precisely that of Gimondi, never give up”, underlines Mario Rovida.
The judges of the competition were Patrizia Sarolli and Mauro Vecchio. The three companies that scored the highest points were also rewarded: on the top step of the podium were Nuova Ciclistica Arma di Taggia, followed by Uà Cycling Team and Unione Ciclistica Valpolcevera. Uà Ciclyng Team is the company with the highest number of participants. Recognition also goes to the two companies that came from further afield, Nuova Ciclistica Arma and Imperia Raineri.
The president of the provincial FCI Gianni Deantoni also spoke at the awards ceremony, as well as the mayor of Casatisma Alberto Arpesella, the president of the “27040” group Alessandro Gatti, and the priest Don Gegè.
Now the second race is expected for Sunday 5 May, the Giovanissimi are on stage at the “Città di Vigevano-Memorial Bazzigaluppi” trophy, with the organization of the Velo Club Abbiategrasso, departure and arrivals in Piazza Calzolaio d’Italia. Upol Pedale Lungavilla will return to organize the race in Rivanazzano Terme on Sunday 26 May, and then continue on Sunday 16 June with a MTB race at the Lungavilla marsh park, with the First Sprints on Saturday 6 July in Montalto Pavese and return to Lungavilla for the road race of the Algeria Trophy, Sergio Paesotto memorial, scheduled for Sunday 15 September from 2pm, closing the provincial Challenge.
