7 nights and 3 availability per month for pediatric nurses: NurSind Caserta asks for a meeting
Yet another report regarding the workload and conditions of workers in the nursing sector has arrived Susan Covelli, territorial secretary of Nursind Caserta. According to Covelli’s statements, the nursing staff, in particular in the Pediatrics UOC with attached Emergency Room, finds itself facing an unsustainable workload.
“We are faced with an extremely worrying situation“, says Covelli. “For the umpteenth consecutive month, a duty shift has been authorized which includes 7 night shifts for each worker, to which are added a further 3 on-call shifts. This not only compromises the psychophysical well-being of the workers, but also seriously puts I risk the quality of care provided.”
NurSind has long insisted on the need for a meeting to discuss the organization of work not only in the Paediatrics Unit, but in general. Covelli emphasizes: “According to Legislative Decree 81 of 2008, organizational effectiveness that promotes workers’ health is fundamental to creating a peaceful environment, improving the quality of care, reducing internal conflict and promoting individual and collective professional growth.”
Management in the National Health Service, according to NurSind, should know and promote management policies aimed at preventing occupational hardship and promoting well-being, since they represent crucial factors for preventing and reducing the risk of errors.
“For all these reasons”, concludes Covelli, “we urgently ask for a convocation for a proactive and collaborative discussion on the organization of work.”
