«Those first Sanremos together in front of the TV»

The voice rarely lies, between the ups and downs of the tones and the notes it reaches. She rarely deceives and tells things that are not; she is sincere in her vibration, brilliant in lighting up looking towards the future and spontaneous in being moved when looking back. She does not betray her voice and is completely transparent, even when a pinch of emotion colors her nuances even just by touching it, the vessel of memories. To open that treasure chest of beautiful moments and past moments, the stamp of First Tacchettinewly appointed master of work and thirty years spent as area secretary of Coldiretti, lights up with the pastel colors of vintage photos and with the bright tones of an intense and visceral passion for the land, which is work, which is commitment, which is satisfaction: which is life.

Countryside

It has always been like this for him, son of the countryside and the rural outskirts of Fermo, where he was born in 1952 and where he grew up, between powerful ties and very close bonds. The first and strongest is that of his name: «My name is this in honor of a neighbor of mine, who was a child of about ten years old when I came into the world and was already doing his part in the countryside, giving a hand to the greats of the house”, he explains. It could only turn into a good omen, that name thus born: «The years of my childhood were those in which, once school work was over, we ran home and helped out as much as we could – he clarifies – like this every day , after morning lessons in the primary school in the countryside with teacher Gemma, I got busy and helped my mother and father.”

Sustenance

«At the time, my family’s livelihood consisted of a piece of land to cultivate and a small herd of cattle: a precious resource for a nice group of ten people, in which everyone did their part, whether small or large. The chronological age was just a detail: we all went to work in the fields and began to breathe the air very early, like I did, who went to the field as a newborn in the basket with my mother. Agriculture in those times was a physical activity, entirely manual. The work in the fields was sweat, it was resignation and patience. But it also meant sharing, joy and company, when for the most tiring jobs we all came together and even the neighbors were called together, because together the physical work became less exhausting and, in sharing, the aching arms and the tired back found relief”.

Memories

Primo’s voice becomes so cheerful and gathers, expands, merges with the joyful noises that crowd the memory, now that the memories come back to the surface «of the first Sanremos seen together, in our house, all sitting in front of the TV. The singers with their performances, the whole neighborhood gathered in front of the shared screen, the light air and mother Giovanna with the pancakes that she prepared and offered to everyone, because it wasn’t a party if there was nothing to eat all together. And the music was the same – smiles Primo as he continues to remember – on the occasion of special holidays or New Year’s Eve, when we were all Uncle Luigi’s guests and we reciprocated the courtesy of the invitation to lunch at our house on Christmas Day. Whether it was raining, sunny or stormy, the holidays were sacred moments that had to be spent together, even at the cost of moving on foot in the snow or forcing the owner of the house to clear the way with shovel blows.” In a horizon of authenticity, sharing has always been a duty, an imperative of union and brotherhood. A symbol of attachment and love, in a childhood in which family was a practical, tangible value: like the earth and its fruits, concrete and satiating. The bond with mother Giovanna and father Giovanni is as strong now as it was then. «Mother and father were essential figures for me – states Primo – the memory of mother is alive in my memory, an excellent cook and unsurpassed teacher in the preparation of gnocchi, which she called suricitti, she cooked every Thursday and seasoned with that very tasty sauce which boiled for hours . It was she who taught me the value of honesty and sincerity, like Father John that of political commitment and sociability. As soon as I graduated, given the brilliant results obtained, I was summoned to Turin by Marelli: they offered me a prestigious job which I was about to accept but which at the end, faced with my parents’ tears, I refused. I couldn’t get away from them and the world they had built.”
