conference and awards ceremony 19th edition of the School Competition – Radio L’Aquila 1

L’AQUILA – Friday 17 May in Theater of the Academy of Fine Arts of L’Aquila two cultural events organized by the Serra Club N.44, District 72 (Abruzzo, Lazio, Campania) were held

In the first part of the morning the conference took place on the theme “Being for the other”. Let’s nourish what is good and put ourselves at the service of good.

The President of the Club, Enrico Storelliopened the day’s proceedings with greetings and thanks to the authoritative guests and speakers who animated the discussion on the proposed topic.

Speakers: SE Rev.ma Mons. Antonio D’AngeloCoadjutor Bishop of the Archdiocese of L’Aquila, Doctor Rinaldo Tordera, President of the Academy of Fine Arts; followed by the speakers Don Federico Palmerini, Responsible for university pastoral care of the Archdiocese of L’Aquila; Simona GiannangeliLawyer of the Anti-Violence Center of L’Aquila e Manuela TursiniCouncilor for Social Policies of the Municipality of L’Aquila.

Don Carmelo Pagano Le Rose, as moderator, immediately focused on a concept that reveals the meaning of Christian anthropology: man is being conceived for the other, essentially a subsisting relationship, not a microcosm closed in its individualism and subjectivism. He is a strictly relational creature to the extent that he declines relationships, the essential ones of transcendence, with himself, with others and with all creation that surrounds him.

Mons. D’Angelo supported the moderator’s words by maintaining that being for the other also means being complementary to the other, which therefore completes him. None of us possesses the whole truth because it is composed thanks to everyone’s participation; otherness, therefore, is not an obstacle, but an enrichment for each of us. This also leads us to give meaning to forgiveness, a special grace that allows us to welcome others.

Don Federico focused his reflection on “Christian life as pro-existence”, that is, existing for others: the very life of Jesus, as a man and as a son of God, was a pro-existence, a being there for others others. This relational dimension has its foundation in the fact that God defines himself starting from relationships, from the believer’s faith in relationship with Him, which leads the I to the we as a community, to weave bonds with someone who reflects us. Today, young people live in a context that favors ever-increasing anonymity, so it is more necessary than ever to focus on the “person”, and not on ephemeral models of reference that change quickly, which cause an anxiety of “inadequacy”, reinforced by failure to recognize skills that, among other things, young people themselves do not know they possess.

Addressing the topic in a completely different light, Lawyer Giannangeli analyzed the “Contrast of male violence between norms and practices” highlighting the psychological, physical, sexual and economic violence that women suffer from men, underlining how everything happens in the normality of daily action. Male violence is not an extemporaneous event, but is a structural fact of this society, because the “asymmetry” of power can only be resolved by intervening with more determination not only from a regulatory point of view, but above all cultural, proposing to man new models of “masculinity” where virility cannot be at the center, but rather being a man.

Councilor Tursini concluded the interesting meeting with a reflection on “Social policies for the search for the common good”, supporting the thesis that the lack of introspection has led to an exasperated individualism that makes us live in a neurotic world. To achieve the common good, we should “rebuild” the individual with founding values, starting from others, from looking towards others, from the needy, because only with the ability to relate to others will we be able to grow, increasing , thus, also our self-esteem.

In the second part of the day, the awards ceremony took place for the students of all schools of all levels who participated in the provincial phase of the “Being for the Other” School Competition. The Coordinator of the Competition Commission, Rita Leonardi, thanked the numerous students, parents and teachers for their collaboration and support in this important event. The students responded with great enthusiasm, according to their sensitivity and creativity, with themes, poems, drawings, videos, fully focusing on the proposed theme. All the kids felt rewarded for their commitment and were rewarded with certificates and special mentions by the Governor of Serra Internazionale, District 72, Teresa Gentile, by the Chaplain Don Carmelo Pagano Le Rose, by the President of the Club Enrico Storelli and by the Past President of Serra International Italy, Paola Poli.
