One thousand euros of prizes to the winners of the Certamen “Andrea Blasina”

Sassari. Riccardo Orgolesu, a fourth year student at the Gramsci High School in Olbia, won the first prize of five hundred euros in the eighth edition of the “Andrea Blasina” Certamen which took place at the end of the week at the Azuni High School in Sassari. Giulia Oggiano, a fifth year student at the Azuni High School, and Antonella Contu, a fifth year student at the Asproni High School in Nuoro, were awarded the second prize of three hundred euros and the third of two hundred euros respectively for a total prize pool of one thousand euros.

The competition, dedicated to the memory of Professor Andrea Blasina, teacher of the Azuni High School who died prematurely a few years ago, was organized by the Greek and Latin department of the Azuni High School in collaboration with the Sassari delegation of the Italian Association of Classical Culture and with the contribution of the Blasina family for the prizes up for grabs.

In the competition of translating and commenting on a piece of prose in Greek by Isocrates, master of rhetoric and educator of the ruling class, around forty students from the fourth and fifth classes of classical high school from various institutes in Olbia, Tempio, Ozieri, Sassari, Alghero, Nuoro, Oristano, Quartu Sant’Elena and Cagliari.

The event was divided into two days, Friday 3 May with the welcoming of the participants and the holding of the competition in the central headquarters of the Azuni High School and Saturday 4 May with the fourth day of Greek studies in memory of Andrea Blasina and the ceremony of awards ceremony for the winning students, which was held in the Aula Segni of the Law department of the University of Sassari.

The tests carried out by the students were corrected by a jury composed of Professor Roberto Nicolai, professor of the “La Sapienza” University of Rome, and Professor Margherita Erbì, researcher of the University of Sassari.

The study day opened with greetings from Professor Nicola Cadoni, teacher of the Liceo Azuni delegated by the head teacher Antonio Deroma, also an appreciated Greek scholar, and was animated by the reports of Professor Nicolai, Professor Erbì and Professor Giovanni Marginesu , former Azunian student and professor at the University of Sassari.

During a break in the proceedings, the student Carlo Pirino, a fifth year student of the Azuni High School music course, performed on the guitar, and during the awards ceremony a certificate of participation was given to all the students who competed in the competition.
