Afternoon of celebrations for the Caterina festivals which are coming to an end. After the mass with the “confirmation of the creed” for the confirmed people of the archdiocese presided over by Monsignor Lorenzo Leuzzi, bishop of Teramo, and concelebrated by Cardinal Augusto Paolo Lojudice, archbishop of Siena, in the basilica of San Domenico the celebration moved to Piazza del Campo where Lojudice and Leuzzi, the mayor Nicoletta Fabio, and Stefania Proietti, mayor of Assisi spoke. Then the blessing with the relic of the Saint to the city, the Archdiocese, Italy and Europe and the final flag-waving of the districts.
In his speech the mayor of Siena Nicoletta Fabio he underlined Siena’s “bond with a woman, a saint hungry for justice, full of mercy who represents a symbol of tenacity and determination. Protector of Siena, Doctor of the Church, Patroness of Italy and co-patron of Europe, the figure of Catherine with her exceptional personality has been measured over the centuries based on various parameters: Catherine in history, Catherine as a model of sanctity, as a writer and as mystical. She was able to transmit the gift of intrepid steadfastness that comes from love for Christ and for the Church, the love for God which becomes love for humanity.”
