Sinner skips Internazionali d’Italia 2024, Jannik’s announcement

Jannik Sinner skips the 2024 Internazionali d’Italia, scheduled at the Foro Italico in Rome from 6 to 19 May. The Italian, number 2 in the world, withdraws from the tournament due to the hip problem that forced him to withdraw before the quarter-finals of the Masters 1000 in Madrid. “It is not easy to write this message but after speaking again with the doctors and specialists about my hip problems I have to announce that unfortunately I will not be able to play in Rome”, writes the 22-year-old from South Tyrol on social media. After withdrawing from the Madrid tournament, Sinner underwent tests which ruled out any significant problems. Evidently, however, the blue is not able to compete at the top.

“Obviously I’m very sad not to have recovered, as it’s one of my favorite tournaments ever. I couldn’t wait to come back and play at home in front of the Italian crowd,” adds Sinner, who at this point aims to return to the field at Roland Garros, second round of the Slam scheduled in Paris from May 20th.

“I will still come to Rome for a few days and go to the Foro Italico. Thank you for your messages of support which I appreciate very much! Now I will work with my team and the doctors to be ready for Roland Garros. See you soon, come on”, concludes Sinner in his message.
