A demonstration to ask for the truth about bad smells and to ask for greater commitment from the institutions
LIVORNO — Protest in the square this morning organized by “Livorno clean port and the “Italian white t-shirts”, to ask for breathable air.
At 10.30 the procession gathered in Piazza Grande, and then passed in front of the Municipality and the court in Via Falcone e Borsellino.
For weeks, the association explains, the Livorno population has been unnecessarily reporting serious smells, probably coming from industrial sites.
Livorno, according to Luca Ribechini, president of Livorno clean port, based on the latest Arpat statistics is clearly above the regional average for deaths due to lung cancer and chronic respiratory diseases.
Finally, Ribechini asked that the authorities make a greater commitment to protecting citizens’ health.
