TRAPANI – During yesterday afternoon, the Operations Room of the Port Authority of Trapani was informed about theand difficulties of a sailing vessel of Polish nationality. Because of a engine failurethe vessel has hit the pier of the port of Trapaninear the Dovecote. In response to the request for assistance, the Coast Guard promptly started rescue operations, deploying its patrol boats and alerting port staff in the area.

However, due to adverse weather conditionscharacterized by strong winds from the North West e waves that reached heights of up to 1.25 metersthe Coast Guard rescue units were unable to approach the vessel in difficulty nor to directly carry out the transhipment of the two people on board.
The two Spanish sailorsaged 45 and 50, were therefore evacuated by land with the help of the port staff of Trapani, who intervened promptly. Once safe, the two women were taken to the Port Authority to receive the necessary assistance and to reconstruct what happened.

At the same time, in order to protect the marine environment and prevent possible damage due to possible pollution, the Port Authority sent its GC A88 inflatable boat to the site, which confirmed the partial sinking of the vessel.
However, due to adverse sea and wind conditions, the company in charge of the removal and the diving staff were unable to intervene safely to recover the vessel.
Therefore, while waiting for an improvement in weather conditions that will allow the recovery of the vessel, the Port Authority will constantly monitor the situation in order to prevent any dangers to navigation and to preserve the marine environment.
