Vandalism during the night between 2 and 3 May 2024 at the central cemetery of Rho. The area affected is that relating to the columbarium block aligned with the driveway entrance on Via Serra.
Unknown persons entered the cemetery, unscrewed dozens of glass candles from the votive lamps and threw them to the ground, breaking most of them. No further damage was detected.
The vandalism was discovered by the employees of the BERLOR company which recently took over the management of the structure when the capital’s cemetery was opened.
The Cemeteries Office has filed a complaint with the Carabinieri at the Rho station, while the local police are examining the images from the video surveillance cameras and checking for any alarms triggered during the night.
The vandals may have remained in the cemetery when it closed, hidden in some part of the large space, and then acted during the night and left in the morning from an entrance different from the one in via Serra. They could also have entered by crossing the fence somewhere, but all pedestrian and vehicular accesses are monitored by cameras.
On the part of the municipal administration, we deeply regret what happened and the total lack of respect for the deceased demonstrated by the authors of this gesture.
