Giulia: «Sea, environment and funds for the South» – Pescara

PESCARA. Transfer the skills acquired on climate change and euro planning, into a vision of a modern Europe. But attentive to the protection of the environment combined with the development of a competitive and attractive Abruzzo for young people.
Giulia Persico, 31 years old, with a degree in law from the University of Milan, despite being very young she has an impressive curriculum behind her, with a master’s degree in geopolitics, specific focuses on the role of the sea in climate change and in euro planning. After an experience that led her to study the Arctic closely, she returned to Pescara, where she deals with subsidized finance for the sector tested in the environmental and clinical fields. The choice to take the field for the European elections, the only candidate under 35 and the only one from Abruzzo on the Greens-Italian Left alliance list, has its roots in her passions, which also animate her life choices.
«The themes underlying the program that I would like to bring to Europe are closely connected to the environment and the sea», he says, «but also to the ability of the South to access European funding and tenders as direct and indirect management». At the center of everything, the environment. «Abruzzo is the green heart of Europe», says Persico, «and retains an unexpressed potential to be enhanced and accentuated. Bringing Abruzzo into Europe is fundamental and a priority: it can be a testing ground for implementing good practices on environmental protection combined with development.”
And – during the interview Persico underlines this several times – with specific attention to the South, which still has a long way to go. «The basic idea», he explains, «is to develop and implement specific plans for the southern regions. In the sea, which has long been the object of my studies, I see a litmus test. Our view on the world, which allows us to be connected with the rest of Europe. At an energy level, it represents an important resource for offshore renewable sources: moreover, it is a natural mitigator of environmental problems related to climate change. The sea absorbs 40% of Co2 globally, but is also affected by changes in the environment and climate linked to pollution.”
Giulia Persico deals with this, and much more, in her profession: «We must find systems», she underlines, «to counteract and mitigate the effects of ongoing climate change, which is also affecting the seas and natural water basins». Another theme, that of young people. Here life experience comes into play: «I left Pescara at just 19 years old to study in Milan, looking for greater opportunities in a city that is very European in terms of setting and lifestyle», says Persico, «the return to Abruzzo was motivated by the awareness that, in this territory, there is enormous potential to be developed. Armed with the knowledge I acquired, I tried to do it. Europe is a very important gateway for young people, but you need to know it and have the tools and skills to take advantage of the opportunities it offers. Unfortunately, it is still very far from the southern regions.”
Hence Giulia Persico’s commitment «what, if elected, I would like to do: bring Abruzzo back to Europe, with its peculiarities and the immense heritage that characterizes it, naturalistic, historical and beyond. On the other hand, bringing Europe closer to Abruzzo and the South as a result of enjoying the range of offers and opportunities that you propose, especially to young people.” Knowledge of tenders, access to financing, development opportunities «are points on which to leverage to create opportunities for the young generations», concludes Persico, «and it is on this front that I believe it is essential to invest in terms of resources and knowledge , for an Abruzzo where young people have greater chances.” (mp)
