Starting tomorrow May 3 to Pordenone there XX edition de “The Women’s Scene“directed by Bruna Braidottiorganized by Arts & Crafts Company and created with the contribution of Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giuliafrom the Friuli Foundation he was born in Municipality of Pordenone. “The house of actresses – May 2024”, as the women’s theater review is subtitled, will run until May 31st with shows, conferences and experiences to make tribute to Eleonora Duse one hundred years after her death, and celebrate not only the actress of unparalleled talent, but also her civil commitment.

Tomorrow Friday 3 May will be there at the Meeting room of the Ex Convento S. Francescoat 6.30pma conference entitled “Eleonora Duse. Female characters and civil commitment” edited by Prof.ssa Maria Pia Pagani, scholar and member of the National Committee for the Celebrations of the Centenary of the Death of Eleonora Duse. During the conference some essential moments of the great actress’s career will be considered, with particular attention to some female characters from her repertoire (such as Mirandolina in “The innkeeper” by Goldoni, Ellida in “The woman of the sea” by Ibsen, Silvia Settala in “The Gioconda” by D’Annunzio) which allowed her to convey to the public a reflection on the condition of women in her era with respect to debated topics such as marriage, family, motherhood, economic independence, the relationship with one’s own body, freedom individual, caring for others. His personal civil commitment will also be considered with the foundation of the Libreria delle Attrici in Rome, and at the front during the First World War, together with the awareness, as evidenced by his numerous admirers, of having left an important mark in the society of his time .

Maria Pia Pagani is a Researcher in Entertainment Disciplines at the University of Naples “Federico II”, PhD in Modern Philology. Among her recent publications: “Creature of poetry. Life in verse of Eleonora Duse” (2023) and “Primadonna. Novellas for Eleonora Duse” (2023), with afterword by Prof. Toni Iermano.
