the lists of Cinque Stelle and Forza Italia were presented

The list of the Five Star Movement for the European elections in the Islands constituency was presented: “We aim to confirm the two seats from the past consultations and to demonstrate with the votes that we are the leader of the alternative forces to the centre-right. The bar of legality and ethics must be raised, which too many scandals, which are overwhelming politics with worrying frequency, have pushed too low. The danger of fueling the already strong abstentionism is very great”, these are the words of the M5S regional coordinator for Sicily, Nuccio Di Paola.

The candidates for the Islands constituency are: Giuseppe Antoci, head of the list, 56 years old, from Santo Stefano di Camastra, former president of the Nebrodi Park, degree in Economics and Commerce; Patrizio Cinque born in Palermo in 1985, former mayor of Bagheria, degree in communications; Antonella Di Prima, 44 years old, born in Sciacca but resident in Syracuse for work, degree in chemical engineering; Virginia Farruggia 47 years old in June, from Gela, municipal councilor in Gela, degree in Architecture; Antonino Randazzo, from Palermo, 40 years old, group leader in the Palermo city council, accounting diploma; Matilde Montaudo 52 years old, cassation lawyer, law degree. The list is completed by the Sardinians Cinzia Pilo and Matteo Porcu.

Di Paola then added: “A very strong signal must be given to the right-wing, national and regional governments: they do everything except think of the South and the Sicilians. Several measures of the Conte government have been dismantled and the ongoing reform of differentiated autonomy risks being the tombstone for us. Even though we have just left, the engine of the 5-star car begins to rev at full speed. We are seeing great interest in our candidates.”

The Forza Italia list was formally deposited yesterday morning by the party’s electoral manager, Hon. Alessandro Battilocchio, accompanied by the Sicilian coordinator Marcello Caruso.

The list sees the outgoing Caterina Chinnici as the head of the list, followed by the other candidates, alternating between men and women, as required by law. In particular it concerns the Hon. Michele Cossa, the former mayor of the city of Lula Maddalena Calia, the Sicilian coordinator of Noi Moderati Massimo Dell’Utri, the regional councilor for the economy Marco Falcone, the regional deputy and mayor of Capri Leone Bernardette Grasso, the regional deputy and mayor of Montevago Margherita La Rocca Ruvolo and finally the regional councilor for productive activities Edy Tamajo.
For the Italian coordinator there is satisfaction: “An extraordinarily strong and competitive team of candidates, who will certainly bring home an excellent result, confirming that even in Sicily Forza Italia is the natural home of all the moderates and liberals who recognize themselves in the values and history of the European People’s Party. All the candidates best represent the spirit and culture of this party, combining great administrative skills and strong roots in their territory. It is a team that will certainly lead to Parliament European Union a strong representation, capable of giving voice to the needs and requests of our communities.”

However, supporting the candidacy of Lidia Tilotta, on the PD list, is Massimo Giaconia, municipal councilor of Progetto Palermo at Palazzo delle Aquile: “We need a Europe close to the territories and local communities. This is why we have chosen to support Lidia Tilotta in the next European elections, a civic and independent person who knows the Sicilian reality well. The decision is to be consistent and in continuity with the project we started during the last regional elections which saw us all committed to supporting Valentina Chinnici, candidate for ARS with the Democratic Party. A project whose main objective is to try to make the PD an open and democratic party where men and women who still believe in the true values of a center-left party can find space, freeing it from the logic of belonging and current”.
