Benevento

The Samnites HC 2.0 team from the GBB Lucarelli Industrial Technical Institute of Benevento won the ANSA award as part of the eleventh edition of the ‘A school of Open cohesion’ project which involved around a hundred schools throughout Italy in the monitoring of initiatives carried out in the area with EU cohesion funds.

In particular, the Samnites team analyzed the completion and enhancement of the Hortus Conclusus, a garden which is in concrete terms a work of public art created and donated in 1992 by the artist Mimmo Palladino to enhance the cultural identity of Benevento. A project, worth around two million euros, which is of great importance for the Benevento community, not only because it has preserved Palladino’s important work of art, but also because it has improved the accessibility of the installation space, completing it for better usability and equipping it with services suitable for hosting cultural events and activities, new lighting and surveillance cameras for security and new trees and plants, thus creating a unique and evocative corner in the city center, open to community participation . In their civic monitoring work, the students of the Samnites team collected data and information, drafted an accurate data journalism article with infographics, and created a final creative video to communicate the results of their research, also conducted through numerous interviews with the creators and creators of the intervention, sector experts and political representatives, including the culture councilor and the mayor of Benevento Clemente Mastella.

The students have also launched new proposals to animate the Hortus, including theatrical and cinematographic performances, historical re-enactments from the birth of Benevento, literary aperitifs, and above all an artistic contest with the patronage of the Municipality, with the hope that it will become an annual event to promote, in the city nominated for Book Capital 2025, an invitation to reading in a prestigious artistic context. The ceremony for the assignment of the Asoc2324 Awards, an initiative promoted by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Department for Cohesion Policies, took place via video link starting from the premises of the Europa Experience David Sassoli of the EP headquarters in Rome. Next autumn, the students of the Samnites team will participate remotely in an editorial meeting at Ansa which will allow them to experience first-hand how the news that they then find on websites, TV news and newspapers is created and developed.
