The European Championship of 2032 it is the horizon within which Italian football aims to make a change on the subject of stadiums. The event is eight years away from the start, but given the bureaucratic delays that characterize our country on the subject of plant engineering, the risk is that we have already started with a huge delay to make up. This is why the interinstitutional committee created for the event, wanted by the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, has been meeting in recent weeks with the municipalities that aim to obtain hospitality for the event. There will be five Italian ones, a maximum of six, to be chosen by 2026 and to be combined with the stadiums of Turkey, co-organizer of the event.
Florence and Cagliari hope
Today the committee met with the municipality of Florence and then that of Cagliari. Being technical meetings, the meetings had the aim of acquiring all the useful elements to understand the state of the art of the restyling project of the Artemio Franchi plants in Florence and Gigi Riva in Cagliari. As regards the new stadium planned in the Tuscan capital, the municipality’s technicians have confirmed that there are no technical and procedural aspects to be resolved, as the project has already acquired all the authorizations and the works have already been delivered. In fact, in just three years we went from the idea to the start of work. The first hearing was with the city of Bologna, while others were already scheduled for May with Parma and Empoli. With Rome, Turin and Milan certainly in pole position to obtain the assignment of the event by the Football Federation, there could only be two slots available.
