A 75-year-old man, originally from Roccapiemonte, was rescued after slipping while picking asparagus on Monte Torello in Castel San Giorgio, in the province of Salerno. The 75-year-old was saved by rescuers from the Cnsas, the Police and the Financial Police. The alarm was raised late this morning when a friend, with whom the 75-year-old had gone to look for asparagus, reported him missing.

The two had separated and arranged to meet at 11am near the cars, in the Cupa delle Selve area, but the 75-year-old did not show up. After trying in vain to contact him on the phone, the friend made a brief search and then alerted the Cnsas. The manager on duty informed the Carabinieri, who intervened on site, while a helicopter from the 6th Naples Flight Department of the State Police took off for an aerial search.

The health workers and technicians of the Cnsas of Campania, with canine units, went to the area, together with the Alpine Rescue of the Guardia di Finanza of Sant’Angelo dei Lombardi (Avellino), and started the searches. The man, who had slipped in an inaccessible area, was identified thanks to the helicopter flying over. When the CNSAS technicians, guided by indications from the Police, reached him, the 75-year-old was unconscious.

The CNSAS health workers stabilized the man and provided him with initial treatment. Salerno’s 118 air ambulance was then activated and arrived on site within a few minutes. After recovering, the 75-year-old was assessed by the medical team and transported by helicopter to Salerno hospital for further checks.
