TERAMO. The curtain falls on Teramo’s season, promoted to Serie D a week ago. The Devil is on stage today (3pm) on the Virtus Cupello pitch on the last day of the championship. The red and whites have the opportunity to conquer three records in the history of Eccellenza Abruzzo: that of victories (equalled, at the moment, the 27 successes of Pro Vasto 1998-’99 and San Nicolò 2013-’14); that of points (winning at Cupello they would go to 88 and would surpass the 87 of Pro Vasto 1998′-’99) and that of goals scored (with 103 goals they are -2 from the 105 scored by San Nicolò ten years ago). A welcome surprise among the 22 players called up: there is in fact the return of the winger Marco Antonelli less than three months after the operation on the anterior cruciate ligament of the right knee. Absent, in addition to the long-term patient Scipioni, are the midfielders Esposito and Massarotti and the second goalkeeper Di Donato (back problem, in his place the Juniores class of 2008 Leonardo Coccia). Striker D’Egidio, scorer of 25 goals, aims to maintain and increase his lead in the scorers’ rankings. «We want to end on a high note», declares the coach Marco Pomante, «and the goal is to put the icing on the cake by trying to hit the three important records at stake. I won’t make any changes in the starting lineup. Now it’s right to celebrate and enjoy this wonderful promotion: then, calmly, I’ll think about the future.”
GIULIANOVA-SANT
The Giallorossi host Santegidiese today at 3pm at Fadini in a match, the last of the regular season, irrelevant for Boccanera and his teammates but fundamental for Sant, who with at least one point would go into the playoffs for survival. The Giallorossi coach Angelo Pagliaccetti, thanks to the qualification for the national play-offs already acquired a few weeks ago, will rely on a large turnover for today’s match. «We will give space to those who have played less also to get playing time in their legs», explains Pagliaccetti, who is clear in view of the end of the season: «I want to see who wants to stay there and play for the playoffs», states the Giuliese coach, « it’s a test for those who have played less and even if the motivations aren’t the same as three weeks ago, it’s still an opportunity to see who wants to play and who doesn’t, who’s there and who’s not. Then we will have three weeks of rest where we will take care of the physical and technical part even better”, concludes Pagliaccetti. For Santegidiese, however, today is an inside or outside match. The Vibratians are currently in third to last place in the standings, three points behind Montesilvano (currently relegated). Sant will need at least a draw to be able to play for the playouts valid for remaining in Excellence. At the moment the playout zone is occupied by Spoltore with 40 points, Pontevomano with 38, Capistrello with 36 and Sant itself, which with a defeat in Giulianova and a success for Montesilvano on the Sambuceto pitch would be forced into a play-off to avoid relegation to Promotion. There is optimism in the Santegidian environment: they trust in Giulianova’s poor motivation and in the twinning between the two fans.
