On Sunday at 6pm, at the Città di Vicenza sports hall, the race for salvation begins Velcofin Interlocks Vicenza: coach Zara’s red and whites host Moncalieri for the first act of the play-out challenge which will decide who will keep their place in A2 and who will instead have to face a second round of play-offs to maintain the category. The series will be played as a best of three: game 2 on Wednesday 1 May in Moncalieri.
Despite the great comeback in the second round, Vicenza was unable to secure direct salvation: in the final days of the championship, Umbertide maintained its advantage over the red and whites, obtaining a place in A2 without going through the play-outs. However, Velcofin’s 2024 will not be diminished by this result: a second round of eight victories and five defeats means Sturma and his teammates arrive at the play-out date with the field factor in their favor and the awareness that this team is worth more than the final position in classification.

However, we cannot relax, despite the best placing in the standings: Moncalieri, despite finishing second to last, has already demonstrated at the end of the season that it is more than tough, beating Broni in the last round of the championship and in general arrives in Vicenza with three wins in the last five games played. Woe betide you to think that the match against the Piedmontese team will be a walk in the park: we will have to suffer until the final siren sounds.
Croatian winger Karmen Cicic, who arrived in January, will certainly be one to keep an eye on, capable of averaging 14 points with a remarkable 34% from three-point range. Not to be underestimated either is the Macedonian guard Tijana Mitreva, a double-digit player, who has often taken the chestnuts out of the fire for the Piedmontese girls. There will be a lot of work to do in the squad then: the couple made up of Ilenia Cordola and Clara Salvini are able to put any long player in difficulty in the squad and their replacement, Princess Amy Jakpa, can also be a thorn in the side. The roster, however fairly long, is then completed with the guards Elena Giordano, Alessia Landi and Elisa Pasero.
