The “Barsanti e Matteucci” Scientific High School participated in the solemn celebration of April 25th which was held this morning in the Viareggio city council hall.
After the speech of the mayor, Giorgio Del Ghingaro, the lectio magistralis of Gianluca Fulvetti, professor of contemporary history at the University of Pisa, and the speeches of Luca Coccoli president of Anpi Viareggio and Filippo Gattai Tacchi for the historical institute of resistance and of the contemporary age of Lucca, Silvia Barbara Gori, director of “Barsanti e Matteucci”, took the floor and thanked all the institutions present and in particular the mayor, the city councilor David Zappelli, the councilor for culture Sandra Mei and the Terra di Viareggio association. “The involvement of young people is fundamental – stated the manager – precisely so that the past can continue to live through the memory of eyewitnesses who, unfortunately, will no longer be there in a few years, and will instead remain alive through the young people. The fact of being able to live experiences up close enters their personal fabric even more. It is therefore not an acquisition that remains at the level of pure knowledge, but through experience, it will remain indelible. So for students the possibility of this active participation represents lifelong learning.”
The manager also explained that the students present at the celebration “are only a small representation of the classes that are working on this project which will culminate with the publication of a text: Allegra Caccia (3A) will tell the story of Fra Bargagli, murdered by the SS for having disobeyed the city’s evacuation command to treat a sick person. Elisa Radicello (3A) is working on drawing up research on Admiral Inigo Campioni, while Luna Lazzari will show a sketch which she will then transform into a model to propose the renovation of Piazza Campioni to the municipality. But there are many subjects and classes interested in the project: 4H is dealing with the history of the right to resistance, 4G will instead talk about totalitarianism and 4E will deal with Radar from the point of view of physics”.
The “Barsanti e Matteucci” teachers who are following the students in this project are Alessandro Dati, Lara Casadio, Carlo Iacomelli, Francesca Pucci and Eleonora Prayer.
