Fifth edition ofOpen lagoons‘, a day of celebration of local culture and traditions – with a focus on music, gastronomy and craftsmanship – organized by the Tortolì fishermen’s cooperative on the occasion of May Day. The Cooperative, made up of 40 members, has always been attentive to environmental awareness and education. Aware of the fact that more plastic has been produced in the last 10 years than in the entire 20th century, it invited all exhibitors to adopt ecological practices eliminating plastic. The motto of this year’s event is “zero plastic, let’s save our seas”. Precisely for this reason, in addition to encouraging a plastic-free event by raising awareness among stand-holders, it launched the initiative “my green glass” also on guests to reduce consumption and waste.

The green glass, the green color of ecology, means that all those who bring the glass from home will receive a nice drink eco friendly gadgets. All you need to do is go to the cashier desks and bring your glass with you. Also this year there is the collaboration with the Ogliastra Artists Associationwith a rich and varied repertoire that ranges from classical to hard rock, including unusual genres.

Open Lagoons 2023 saw such a high influx of people that it is assumed that “the innovations of this new 2024 edition will be a significant incentive for a further increase in attendance” he says Luca Cacciatori, president of the Cooperative. The offer will not be limited to gastronomic specialties of the sea and land, such as grilled fish, pasta with clams, oysters, fried food, sandwiches with meat, purpuzza, but also piadine, suckling pig, kebabs, many Ogliastra craft beers, local wines , typical desserts and a dedicated corner for aperitif lovers. The news continues with the proposals of artisans and hobbyists who will show us their textile creations, wood, Sardinian fabrics, creative sewing, tropical plants. But also clay jewellery, ceramics, cane baskets, cork products, handmade knives, leather artefacts, natural cosmetics, ancient grains, and the association’s charity fishing Auser. Last but not least, there are also cheeses and cured meats, traditional wooden games, sculptures in marble, stone and artistic crochet hooks.

A real opportunity not to be missed is the chance to participate in the educational routes sailing in the lagoon itself thanks to the Cooperative’s equipped boat. A magnificent opportunity to admire the local flora and fauna as well as the breeding facilities for the famous Ogliastra oysters, the “Fabrizie”.

In addition to visiting the pond with the boatthere will also be two guided walking tours at 10.30 and 11.15 to discover from the ground the life of this very important wetland. As in previous editions, this year too, there will be a train to take people from the most distant car parks to the gate. In fact, it wouldn’t be the first time you see 2 kilometers of cars parked to take part in the events of the Tortolì Cooperative. “The train – says Cacciatori – also wants to be an inclusive gesture to allow everyone, even those with walking difficulties, to be able to participate, have fun and spend a wonderful day in the open air with good food, good company and good music”.

“It will be a splendid day of celebration – Donatella Contu, vice-president of the Cooperative – with an eye towards our planet and our sea. The “my green glass” initiative is a way to promote civic and environmental awareness, allowing all our beloved guests to actively participate. We can no longer pretend nothing has happened, our sea needs us even when we party, we must protect and respect it, while having fun.”
