The Postignano Castle, is in Umbria in the hamlet of the Municipality of Sellano (PG), it was abandoned in the 60s and has come back to life thanks to a careful restoration work lasting many years, carried out by the architects Gennaro Matacena and Matteo Scaramella and entirely bound by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage. In 2014, as part of the ‘La Fabbrica nel Paesaggio’ Award, it received a certificate of merit from the Italian and European Federation of Clubs and Centers for UNESCO “as an effective interpreter of UNESCO values for the safeguarding and protection of the landscape and of the environment”.
In 2016, it became part of “The most beautiful villages in Italy” through Sellano, its municipality, of which it is one of the most precious gems. And finally on 6 November 2017, in London, at The May Fair Hotel, the Relais Castello di Postignano was awarded for the “BEST SERVICED ACCOMMODATION” category within the prestigious “Europe & Mediterranean Awards for Excellence 2018”, organized by Condé Nast Johansens.
This magical place has been defined as the archetype of Italian hilltop villages by the American architect and photographer Norman F. Carver Jr, so much so that he reproduced the imposing tower houses of the village, jutting out over each other, on the cover of his book photographic “Italian Hilltowns” published in the USA in 1979, subsequently translated into Italian with the title “Italian Hilltowns”.
