Zappaterra: “With Stefano Bonaccini the best of Emilia-Romagna in Europe”

“Experience, concreteness and humanity. With Stefano Bonaccini the best of Emilia-Romagna in Europe. After 10 difficult years between Covid and floods as leaders in our college at the European Championships in June you will make the difference this time too.” With these words Marcella Zappaterra greets the candidacy for the European elections of Stefano Bonaccini who will have to leave the office of president of the Region a few months early. A role for which he was elected in autumn 2014 and which he will leave after 10 years in autumn 2024.

During the speech in which he announced his candidacy, Bonaccini himself also assured that he would dedicate himself to his role until he took office. “You have served our region for 15 years – says Paolo Calvano -, first as a regional councilor and then as President, now you can go and serve our country from Europe. A European Union that you already know how it works due to the many things done in Emilia-Romagna together with the European institutions. You have invested a lot in the international positioning of our region to ensure we have a perspective, without ever disconnecting from the daily needs of the Emilia-Romagna people”.

However, the Ferrara dems’ enthusiasm for this candidacy is accompanied by the secretary of the regional League Matteo Rancan who speaks of an “irresponsible act towards the Region”. “A gesture – he adds – which puts his personal political future before the good of our region which he abandons to itself. This is also why, as the League, we are ready to govern.”

Five-star senator Marco Croatti, however, seems to welcome the opening of new opportunities. “StI turn the page, after ten years, and in the progressive camp there is the opportunity to build a new shared political path that is strong, credible, innovative, which will be able to show the whole country a truly alternative politics to the classist one, subversive, lobbyist of the right of Meloni and Salvini”.

“In Emilia-Romagna – he adds – we can build a progressive project that puts the common interest at the center and not that of a few, that is inclusive, supportive and against inequalities, that is truly environmentalist and capable of focusing on sustainability as the key to make our businesses increasingly competitive and innovative. The discussions with other progressive, environmentalist and pacifist souls in the region, already underway in the territories and municipalities, will intensify and I hope that in the process of dialogue in view of the regional elections in November we will not stop and wait for those political forces that often Parliament and the country take sides and vote in favor of the terrible measures desired by the right on justice, legality and information. The same political forces that deal with the environment, peace and development are very far from progressive positions and rather close to conservative policies”.

“We need – he concludes – a strong and shared vision and if there is the will to work in this direction it will not be difficult to find the right person to represent this project. As M5S we will act to give Emilia Romagna a great future.”
