New York State Police plan to fill in for Syracuse police officers and Onondaga County sheriff’s deputies as they attend funerals and mourn the loss of two officers killed in a shootout.

State troopers will respond to calls, help with traffic management and provide logistical support from 3 pm today through Monday, according to state and local authorities.

Troopers also agreed to provide extra coverage beyond Monday if additional support is needed, a spokesperson for Gov. Kathy Hochul said today.

About 15,000 people are expected to attend two separate funerals for the slain officers on Saturday and Monday.

The funeral for Syracuse Police Officer Michael Jensen will be Saturday at small church in Rome. Services for Onondaga County Sheriff Lt. Michael Hoosock will be Monday at the New York State Fairgrounds.

Syracuse police today encouraged residents to report non-emergency matters through alternative methods. Voicemail messages can be left at the department’s tele-serve line (315) 442-5207.

Reports can also be submitted online to the police department.

Police said Onondaga County residents should continue to call 911 to report emergencies.
