Explosion at the post office: extensive damage, the office remains closed

On the night of May 1st, the peaceful silence of Piazza Papa Giovanni XXIII a Brugherio was ripped apart by a deafening roar. A’devastating explosion has reduced the post office in rubble, causing extensive damage and sowing panic among the residents of the neighborhood. According to initial reconstructions, the group of criminals responsible for the gesture appears to have aimed at the automatic teller machine of the post office, probably aware that starting from May 2nd it would provide pensions. But their attack was much more violent than expected: the explosion not only destroyed the building’s windows, but also projected debris well beyond the confines of the office, leaving behind only rubble and desolation.

The residents, awakened with a start by the roar, looked out of their windows to witness the scene in disbelief. The Carabinieri of Brugherio promptly intervened on site, starting investigations to identify those responsible.

Poste Italiane communicated to the mayor of the city, Roberto Assi, the temporary closure of the office in Piazza Giovanni XXIII, to allow for restoration work. During the entire closing periodcustomers can contact the nearby post offices and, in particular: Carugate post officelocated in via San Francesco d’Assisi 1, open from Monday to Friday, from 08.20 to 19.05, Saturday from 08.20 to 12.35.

“The Brugherio Post Office will reopen as soon as they arrive the work finished restoration and safety of the building”.

The damage caused by the explosion is extensive. Work began immediately to make the area safe.
