Piedmont hospital, emergency room nurse attacked

MESSINA – Another attack on the emergency room staff of the Piedmont hospital. Yesterday, at around 10pm, a citizen who had turned to the general emergency room following an illness, inexplicably railed against the healthcare workers and, in particular, against the nurse present at the Triage, who was repeatedly insulted, even by the user’s family, with unusual violence and verbal vehemence only because she had simply communicated that the doctor’s visit on duty would take place after a few minutes of waiting as all the rooms, including that of the code red, they were busy with patients undergoing investigations. Only thanks to the intervention of the police, called by the operators themselves, was the physical attack avoided.

The episode was reported by Uil Fpl, through a note signed by the company secretaries Nino Nunnari and Maurizio Celona and the general secretary Livio Andronico. The note was sent to the General Director of the IRCCS Neurolesi Bonino Pulejo, Maurizio Letterio Lanza, and to the Prefect of Messina, Cosima Di Stani.

“Unfortunately, we must denounce – writes the union. that these very serious episodes are no longer isolated cases, but represent sad and unacceptable everyday life. Just a few weeks ago, during a further episode of violence, a security guard on duty in the general emergency room of Piedmont, in an attempt to quell an attack, was injured with a cutting weapon by a user. What happened is absolutely intolerable and poses very serious problems regarding the physical safety of emergency room workers, who, of all healthcare workers, are the most exposed to aggression and physical violence.”

In light of the serious events that have occurred, Uil Fpl “in addition to expressing feelings of solidarity and closeness to the operators involved, calls for the establishment of a permanent police station within the general emergency room of the Piedmont hospital to guarantee the protection of workers ” and at the same time, invites the general director “to act in the appropriate places, against the attacker, as required by current legislation”.
