The police arrested a Pakistani and an Afghan accused of kidnapping for ransom, sexual violence, injury and aiding illegal immigration. The victim is a 17-year-old girl of Syrian origin, who fled with her family to Turkey during the war. After the February 2023 earthquake, they were headed towards European Union countries. An arrest warrant has been issued against an Albanian woman, wanted for the same crime, but not traceable.
The family had to pay a ransom
The case is complex and the investigations have been difficult. The girl, together with her father, mother, grandmother and a brother, were traveling to Germany when they fell into the hands of traffickers. In Slovenia, women and men were separated. The women were left in a country house in Reggio Emilia, while the men were abandoned near Udine. The girl was then taken elsewhere and her family was forced to pay a ransom for her release. During this time, she suffered abuse and violence, including a broken arm.

Found in a service area on May 30th
Last May 30th she was found in Lodi by a petrol station attendant in a service area, and the investigations began from there. The police, coordinated by the Lodi prosecutor’s office and the prosecutor’s office of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Bologna, arrested the two foreigners. The two Mercedes used to take the family to Italy were also found. One of those arrested was caught in Croatia, the other was stopped by the Modena police during a check.
