Soroptimist Novara and the Rigutini school pay homage to Alfonsina Strada for the Giro d’Italia

On the occasion of the start of the second stage of the Giro d’Italia, scheduled for Monday 6 May from Piazza Martiri in Novara, Soroptimist International Club of Novara and the Rigutini primary school of Sant’Agabio
“Bellini”, present the project “Cycle shopping with Alfonsina and the children of Rigutini”. The initiative involves the gift of posters created by students thanks to the support of Soroptimist to around sixty commercial businesses in the historic center and the Sant’Agabio district.

In small poster format, the posters will be visible in shop windows until May 6th. The proposal is part of Soroptimist International Italia’s national projects “Quality Education” and “Women & Sport”.

The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Novara urban commercial district.

It is remembered that Alfonsina Strada participated in the Giro d’Italia in 1923, covering all the stages with jersey 72, duly reproduced by the little designers, but was forced to disguise herself as a man, and when at the end of the competition she made her gender identity clear, her participation was not recognized. Soroptimist International Italia also intended to celebrate Alfonsina by issuing a stamp dedicated to her which was granted the philatelic cancellation.
