The closing ceremony of the final phases of the Italian Astronomy Championships was held in the splendid setting of the renovated “Gianni Versace” Auditorium of the Cedir in Reggio Calabria. The curtain falls on the traditional scientific event organized by the Ministry of Education, the Italian Astronomical Society and the National Institute of Astrophysics, this year, for the XXII edition, with the support of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria.

For three days around a hundred kids, coming from schools all over Italy, challenged each other in the tests scheduled by the Ministry, until the end of the event which marked the composition of the team of students who will represent Italy at the next international championships of Astronomy. The final ceremony was attended by the Deputy Mayor of the Metropolitan City Carmelo Versace, the Director of Sector 2 Institutional Affairs, Economic Development and Human Resources Giuseppina Attanasio, together with the officials of the Sector, Professor Anna Brancaccio representing the Ministry, together with the Delegate Quartuccio. of Education, Professor Giuseppe Cutispoto, as Coordinator of the Organizing Committee, and Professor Angela Misiano, scientific director of the Pythagoras Planetarium in Reggio Calabria.

For the Reggio stage, the contribution of the Metropolitan City was fundamental in collaboration with the “Pythagoras” Planetarium, the Municipality of Palmi, the “Mediterranea” University, the University of Calabria and the “Leonardo da Vinci” scientific high school, with the sponsors Atam and Altafiumara and the moral patronage of the Calabria Region.

“It was an honor to be able to host this prestigious event – said the Metropolitan Councilor delegated for Culture Filippo Quartuccio – I sincerely thank all those who collaborated for the success of the event, the organizing bodies, the partners and the administrative machinery of the Culture Sector which worked tirelessly for this beautiful result. It was a true success, which was held in our city by the will of the Italian Astronomical Society which rewarded the candidacy of the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria led by the mayor. Giuseppe Falcomatà, who with great political and administrative foresight wanted to bet, and continues to do so, on scientific culture”.

“An event of this depth and level is truly exciting – added the Councilor – it allows us to make our territory known to hundreds of young people, their families and the circuit of enthusiasts. We experienced three truly extraordinary days. The kids , the teachers, the parents, the jury, were enraptured by the many beauties of our land and many said that they will return there soon on holiday. It is a sign of how this type of national event can be a vehicle for development also from a tourist perspective, producing positive effects on the image and perception of our territorial identity”.

“I want to underline the commitment of these kids who competed in these finals with extraordinary seriousness and passion. We understand all the love they have for astronomy and the passionate study that has brought them this far. These kids know that through study and education can grow in life. And it is precisely for this reason that as a Metropolitan City we continue to invest in culture and in young people, so that they have ever greater opportunities and can support this growth path of our territory with their enthusiasm the national final of a prestigious event in Reggio is certainly a source of pride for us.”
