Syracuse, NY ― Jyáre Davis grew up in Delaware, played at Sanford High School in Hockessin, Delaware and for the last three seasons played at the University of Delaware.

But Davis says he’s looking forward to spending the 2024-25 season at Syracuse University.

“I honestly just can’t wait to get there,” Davis said during an appearance on the Inside Syracuse Basketball podcast.

Davis, a 6-foot-7 forward announced his decision to transfer to Syracuse earlier this week. He made the announcement on Monday following a weekend visit to the SU campus.

Davis said he decided to transfer from Delaware to challenge himself at a higher level.

“I definitely loved Delaware,” he said. “I love my teammates; love my coaches. I’m looking for a bigger stage and living out your dreams of playing high major basketball.”

Davis averaged 17.1 points and 7.5 rebounds for Delaware during the 2023-24 season. He is the second player to commit to Syracuse through the NCAA’s transfer portal, joining former Colorado center Eddie Lampkin Jr.

Before winning two state titles in high school and a Colonial Athletic Association championship at Delaware, Davis made a name for himself as an 8th-grader when a video of him dunking during at an AAU showcase event went viral.

Yes, some people wanted to see his birth certificate.

“I dunked for the first time when I was 12,” Davis said. That was in practice. A few weeks later, Davis threw down his first in-game dunk. “My first dunk in a game was on my 13th birthday.”
