“No alarmism, citizens must rely on official information”

Bradyseism. Joint statement by the Mayors of Pozzuoli (Luigi Manzoni), Naples (Gaetano Manfredi), Quarto (Antonio Sabino) and Bacoli (Josi Gerardo Della Ragione)

With reference to the documentary released by a Swiss agency and covered by numerous national and local newspapers, we believe we need to provide the right information to our fellow citizens.

Since 2005, bradyseism has resumed its natural activity, and for a couple of years seismic events have followed one another with greater intensity and frequency, although 10 times lower than the last bradyseismic crisis of the 1980s.

Our fellow citizens are understandably worried, and the Flegrean administrations are making joint efforts to address the objective problems linked to the phenomenon, informing citizens transparently and promptly on the trend of bradyseism, in full collaboration with the national government, the Campania Region, the civil protection and the INGV – Vesuvian Observatory, in order to prevent risks and increase the resilience of the territory.

For years we have been asking that everyone do their part and the press, without prejudice to freedom of information, a sacrosanct principle which none of us intends to derogate from, have a fundamental role and a great responsibility towards citizens.

We firmly reiterate, supported by the clear stance of the INGV – Vesuvian Observatory, that what is represented in the animations of the film is absolutely far from us, like any other catastrophic natural event, and we invite our fellow citizens to rely on the information that comes from those , every day, lives and makes sure to continue to live, in safety, in the Campi Flegrei.
