ROVIGO – It opened its doors to visitors on February 23rd and it already promises to be a success. The exhibition on Henry de Toulouse-Lautrecpromoted by the Cariparo Foundation in collaboration with the Municipality and the Accademia dei Concordi, with the support of Intesa Sanpaolo, last Sunday it exceeded 25 thousand visitors. Curated by Jean-David Jumeau-Lafond, Francesco Parisi and Fanny Girard, with the collaboration of Nicholas Zmelty (posters and engravings), produced by Dario Cimorelli Editore, the event had numerous bookings even before the opening. And the current visitor figure, welcomed with great satisfaction by the organizers, confirms the impressions of the first days, namely that this extraordinary monographic exhibition could have competed brilliantly to become one of the most visited Italian exhibitions of the season.

Palazzo Roverella, success for the exhibition on Henry de Toulouse-Lautrec

The reviews left by visitors recognize its quality: the works are significant and the insights are well structured, as well as very useful, they write. In short, a well thought out and highly evocative exhibition. All the signs, and in particular the strong growth in bookings, lead us to assume that until June 30, the final date of the event, there will be a significant growth trend in attendance, especially by organized groups. If this is confirmed by the facts, the exhibition on Toulouse-Lautrec will be positioned at the top of the list of the most viewed ones of all time at Palazzo Roverella. A prediction that should not be surprising because it proposes more than 200 works to tell the story of the kaleidoscopic French artist and Paris at the end of the century, going beyond the approach that so often reduces Toulouse-Lautrec (Albi, 24 November 1864-Saint André du Bois, 9 September 1901 ) to a universe devoid of facets and sometimes even relegating him to the sole activity of creating posters (however present): he prefers the activity of a painter, with paintings and pastels coming from important American and European as well as French museums, in relation to the environment Parisian where he worked, putting the artist in comparison with realists, impressionists, symbolists with whom he shared experiences and moments of daily life.
