Poaching, 3,000 meters of prohibited nets seized – Pescara

FRANCAVILLA. Two operations to combat poaching were carried out by the financiers of the Roan, the air-naval operations department of the Pescara financial police, coordinated by the commander Salvatore Vaporieri. Overall, 3,000 meters of unmarked fishing nets placed in prohibited areas in the stretches of sea between Francavilla and San Vito Chietino were identified and seized by the financiers of the Naval Station.
In a first operation, in the waters in front of Francavilla al mare, the yellow sea flames discovered a fishing net that did not comply with current legislation. The operators of the diving unit then carried out a reconnaissance dive and recovered and seized over 2,500 meters of nets used for poaching, positioned just over a meter deep. Part of the net was positioned inside the breakwater cliffs, an “extremely dangerous” position for both divers and water sports enthusiasts.
Subsequently, after a few days and after a report received by a citizen from the public utility number “117”, the military started an investigation activity through land stakeouts, underwater inspections and coastal reconnaissance, with the use of increasingly efficient naval vessels. At the first light of dawn, the financiers stopped a fisherman with unmarked and cleverly hidden nets, over 500 meters long, in the waters in front of the municipality of San Vito Chietino, a few meters from the coast, which were immediately seized. An administrative fine of 2,000 euros and a deduction of 7 points from the fishing license were imposed on the poaching fisherman, as required by current legislation.
All the fish products seized in the various operations were donated to charitable organizations in Pescara. The controls, as announced by the Finance Ministry, aim to guarantee the protection of the territory and resources and to prevent indirect damage for those who respect the rules.
