For days there has been tension in the air in Viale Tre Martiri. The reason? The 30th round of the Promotion championship (not the last, net of the postponement of the 16th and 24th matchdays) the derby between Rovigo and Pettorazza San Martino is in store and to say delicate is an understatement.
Yes, because if you take a quick look at the standings you notice a situation that is anything but idyllic for the two teams from Polesine, even more so for the hosts, stuck in penultimate place (together with Saonara Villatora) and -7 from the fifth to last place , the one that should reveal the opponent in the playouts and which is currently occupied by Loreo. But given a difference equal to or greater than 6 points from the Loredans, at the moment Rovigo would be relegated without further appeals.
This is why it is mandatory to win on Sunday: any other result would be detrimental to the hopes of survival of Mastrocinque’s troops. However, this would not be true for the red and white team (a-8 from Rovigo), who it would definitively secure their stay in the category for next season too.
Rovigo sporting director Massimo Bovolenta spoke about this whole hot situation: “We absolutely have to win in a match where nerves will be on edge. The boys are ready, in these matches you need all the grit in the world and throwing your heart over the obstacle. We know very well that in the event of a negative result the pursuit of salvation would be almost definitively compromised. We have the derby ahead of us against a quality, tough opponent who I personally thought would have a better ranking situation at the beginning of the year”.
However, Rovigo will not have their destiny in their own hands, they must hope for the missteps of their other rivals to fully rejoice. So the appointment is on Sunday 21st, in a real “in or out”.
