The approval by the Lazio Regional Council of the motion that we presented in the chamber today to ask the Region to promote the Government’s adoption of compulsory paternity leave is a good signal for everyone.
This is an important decision, which supports a decisive tool to encourage a new model of care, in which men are protagonists. At the same time, compulsory paternity leave frees up women’s time, allowing them to participate more widely in economic, social and professional life.
We remind you that at a European level, in the Scandinavian countries the leave is 12 months, in Spain three months, in France one month. The motion approved today is a good start, it does not indicate a precise duration for the leave, but it allows us to start a debate in the implementation phase of law 32/2022 which reformed family policies.
An encouraging step, in short, for a commitment that we hope will be as shared as possible towards full gender equality.
