Fiumicino, an afternoon at Grassi for autism awareness

Fiumicino, 19 April 2024 – On Wednesday afternoon, in the primary school headquarters of the GB Grassi Institute, thanks to the collaboration of the Matrioska bookshop, the author and illustrator Giovanni Colaneri was a welcome guest, who carried out an interactive workshop with the children to the presentation of the book “Where are you little Giulio?”, on autism awareness.

The children enthusiastically welcomed this wonderful initiative: through reading, in fact, it is possible to connect with the world, providing models of identification and stimuli to overcome discomfort by developing creativity. Reading is good: it reduces stress. promotes concentration skills, makes you more sensitive to listening and trains thinking.

Through reading the emotional story of little Giulio, of a sister who understands him and of a mother who can see him, the children of the Grassi school have addressed truly important topics.
Where did little Giulio go?
Is it right here?
Hides?
Did he get lost in the woods?
Wherever he ended up, little Giulio will always be found.

Giulio’s relational difficulties are shown through highly effective symbolic and evocative illustrations. Giulio is small, lost, evanescent, he gets lost in an ancient forest, gets stuck in the traffic of toy cars, hides in a bottle like the message of a castaway.

Until his path intertwines with that of his sister and his mother; then, like celestial bodies that intersect the same orbit for a moment, they discover they are part of the same universe, as boundless as an embrace.

An illustrated book which, in a harmonious harmony of short sentences and highly detailed images, offers a simple and delicate look at the extremely complex world of autism.
