SIENA. Once again the match at the San Filippo sports center between Brescia and Siena, as happened in the regular season and then in the quarter-finals of the playoffs, ends in a tiebreak. This time the Lombards prevailed, winning the first leg of the Italian Cup quarter-final series. The return match will be played on Sunday 5 May at PalaEstra, at 7pm.
First set Siena begins the challenge with Nevot-Krauchuk, Pierotti-Tallone, Trillini-Copelli, Bonami. Brescia replies with Tiberti-Klapwijk, Gavilan-Cominetti, Candeli-Erati, Pesaresi.
The match starts with a quick strike from Alex Erati. The Brescians take a small advantage with the break point scored by Klapwijk (5-3). Siena did well in a couple of circumstances when changing the ball with Matheus Krauchuk, but Brescia didn’t give up and led by their opposite team reached +4: 9-5. Coach Graziosi also uses Martin Coser in defense. A Sienese block and an out attack by Cominetti bring the Tuscans closer: 9-7. Siena didn’t serve very well at this point while Klapwijk continued to lead the Brescia attack and put down points: 15-10. Brescia is very present on the pitch: Gavilan also crushes in a winning manner (17-10). Krauchuk finds the intersection of the lines: 17-11. Two blocks from Erati bring the score to 20-13 in favor of the home team. Klapwijk scores the point which makes it 25-18.
The Lombards are led by a stellar Klapwijk with 11 points scored and 77% in attack.
Second set Sebastiano Milan is on the pitch for Siena. Matheus Krauchuk’s winning service and Thomas Nevot’s point block were important, Siena put their head ahead: 10-11. Then Krauchuk and Milan scored again. Brescia takes the lead again in the set with two aces from Klapwijk. Alessio Tallone returns to the field. The trend reverses again with an excellent attacking shot from Krauchuk and with Marco Pierotti scoring a break point. Pierotti again this time with the ball change at 20-22. The entry of spiker Federico Pellegrini is very good, as he serves and puts Brescia’s reception in difficulty. Two points arrive from Milan with which the second set ends: 21-25.
Third set Siena starts well with an ace from Copelli. And then it continues equally well with winning attacks by Pierotti and Milan and good plays in the center by Trillini. Krauchuk’s winning attack earned the score 13-15. Brescia returns to parity with Cominetti’s winning block: 15-15. Klapwijk then takes his lead: 16-15. Gavilan maintains the lead for the locals: 19-18. Pierotti’s block on Klapwijk’s dunk is very important: 19-19. Gavilan hits again from place 4: 20-19. Shortly after another beautiful action, finally closed by Trillini’s block: 20-20. The 21 all comes thanks to Krauchuk. Fourth set Copelli’s Ace. Then two blocks from Trillini and Tallone allow the Sienese to move up to +3: 5-8. Then it is Pierotti who takes on the burden of Siena’s attack. Matheus Krauchuk’s serving series is fantastic: the Brazilian opposite scores two aces and Siena flies away at 10-14. Siena continues to have fluidity in attack and finds a great ace from Thomas Nevot: 14-20. There is a great defense from Bonami on Klapwijk’s attack, Krauchuk takes advantage of it and his attack is winning for 15-22. Copelli’s fast pace ok: 17-23. Siena wins the fourth set 19-25, closed by another ace from Krauchuk.
Fifth set Brescia starts strong: 5-2. Gavilan did well again, at the change of ends the home team was ahead 8-4. Siena break point with the winning block by Riccardo Copelli: 8-6. Pierotti’s winning attack: 9-7. Klapwijk however this time sends the ball out: 9-8. A joke from Copelli ends up just wide and is reviewed at the video check. Then Klapwik extends for the locals: 11-8. Cominetti’s batting series extends to 13-8. Brescia wins the tiebreak 15-10.
