The temperatures in the Asti area are dropping sharply and, in these hours, a strong wind has picked up and the clouds are starting to bring rain.
This is confirmed by the forecasts from Dati Meteo Asti which explain: “Bursts of arctic air are causing a prolonged cold period in Piedmont (and more generally in all of Northern Italy) characterized by below-average temperatures until at least April 25th”.
The peak of the cold will be reached this night, when extensive frosts are expected on plains, valley floors and low hills below 200/250 m, with possible damage to crops.
The weekend will be characterized by sunny and stable weather with pleasant daytime temperatures (15/18°C) and minimum temperatures mostly above 0°C, but with new strong Foehn winds on the afternoon of Saturday 20th.
“ A worsening of weather conditions is expected starting from the evening of Sunday 2nd1 – explains Weather Data – due to the irruption of freezing air from Northern Europe from the ‘Gate of the Rhone’: the formation of a cyclogenesis over the Mediterranean between the Gulf of Lion and the Ligurian Sea will be responsible for the activation of more humid southern currents and heralds of precipitation in the North-West. For this reason, between Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd the return of widespread rains with snowfalls up to exceptionally low altitudes for the period is expected, especially in the Cuneo area and the Langhe where late snowfalls will be possible (to be confirmed)”.
