Cammini, funds for 5.6 million euros in Abruzzo – Notizie d’Abruzzo

47 million euros have been allocated for the paths of central Italy hit by the 2016 earthquakes. The implementing ordinance of the commissioner structure was issued, after the measure had been announced in recent months, so as to intervene in support of the development program of the slow tourism proposed by the four regions of the crater. As the Commissioner for Reconstruction Guido Castelli himself explains, “it is a complex system of interventions for routes that can be used with a view to intermodality with public transport and cycling, for safety and maintenance, but also for investments for accommodation and refreshment services intended for walkers and pilgrims”. Particular attention was also paid to accessibility for people with limited mobility to allow everyone to experience the journey and pilgrimage. The decision of the commissioner structure comes on the eve of important events in the coming years: the Jubilee 2025, the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis in 2026 and the 500th anniversary of the pontifical approval of the Order of Capuchin Friars in 2028. The Marche goes to largest portion of the financing with around 30 million euros, 5.6 million per region goes to Abruzzo, Lazio and Umbria.

In Abruzzo, the total funding for the paths is 5.6 million. Of these, 846 thousand euros for interregional paths: the Cammino delle Terre Mutate, which begins in Fabriano, crosses the Marche region and ends in L’Aquila, crossing the municipalities of Campotosto and Pizzoli in the crater of the 2016 earthquake, receives 446 thousand euros. The funding goes to cover infrastructure with tourist signaling, hiking signs, route safety and digital promotion. This intervention is in continuity with the Marche section of the Camino, which was already financed as part of the Institutional Earthquake Development Contract when Commissioner Castelli was Councilor for Reconstruction of the Marche Region. The Abruzzo section of the path of San Giuseppe has a budget of 400 thousand euros and is in conjunction with a similar intervention identified by the Lazio Region; it crosses the municipalities of Montereale, Capitignano and Campotosto, all of which fall within the 2016 earthquake crater. Instead, 1.5 million euros go to the regional paths of Abruzzo. These funds support the paths in the area of the 2016 earthquake crater in the provinces of Teramo and L’Aquila, as regards the route of the Apennine Sentiero Italia, and include the strengthening of the existing path network, with the aim of connecting the territories of the municipalities interested parties and create light infrastructures that promote the development of the territory by enhancing sites of environmental, historical and architectural value. Finally, there are 794 thousand euros in funds for investment projects for new constructions, renovations, adaptations or enhancements of commercial or artisanal activities located along the route, which will be assigned through public notices and 2.5 million euros for economic activities that are found in the areas surrounding the paths, inside the 2016 crater.
