Softball Drops Wednesday Afternoon Contest At Syracuse

SYRACUSE, NY — Syracuse pitcher Jessie DiPasquale struck out eight batters and held Cornell to one hit as the Orange beat the Big Red 4-0 at Skytop Softball Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

The Big Red fell to 7-27 overall, while the Orange improved to 26-21. Cornell concludes its season on the road against Princeton on Friday and Saturday.

The Orange got on the board in the first inning when Vanessa Flores plated Angel Jasso with a single to left field. Syracuse scored two more in the second, getting one on Kate Dorazio’s groundout to second base and another on Madelyn Lopez’s single to right field.

Madison Knight made it a four-run game in the fifth inning, blasting a solo home run over the left-center field fence.

Lauren Holt had the lone hit for the Big Red, a triple down the right-field line in the fourth inning. Kate Callaway and Sydney Stapf reached base on walks.

Kyrie Denny pitched five innings for the Big Red and allowed all four runs (only one was earned) on seven hits. She didn’t walk any Syracuse batters and struck out two. Maxine McCraw worked a clean sixth inning in relief.
